Alex Bergtraun
Alex is a Bay Area native where he began his art and architectural career after graduating from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and a one-year Rotary scholarship studying in Denmark. His international experience additionally includes three years working in a studio in Milan, Italy creating architecture, ceramic sculpture and travel sketches. These experiences, along with travels through Asia and Europe, greatly influenced his artistic and architectural sensibility and continued worldly travels augment and enrich his design vocabulary. …
Alex’s art has always focussed on the relationship between interior and exterior environments in whatever media he has worked in, from watercolor and drawing to ceramic sculpture. Through watercolor, Alex has studied the creation of “windows” developing views out into real and imagined worlds. In ceramic form, Alex has concentrated on the power of light from the exterior onto form and from within glowing outwards, much like the Studio’s fascination with the flow in architecture between indoor and outdoor. It is Alex’s belief that art and architecture can form a beautiful framework enhancing the lives of those who live and work within and around it.
