Pam Mendelsohn writes about her photograph Waiting:

I spent a week volunteering at the Humanitarian Respite Center.  Refugees were released from detention and sent there en route to their USA destinations, fingers crossed.  This mother and son arrived at the Humanitarian Respite Center from the detention center tired, hungry, demoralized, and in major need of showers.  All detainees arrive without shoelaces and belts.  They had access to a free phone to call home, showers, new clothes and shoes, delicious meals, games and art projects for the children, and mats to sleep on.  There was a bank of lawyers helping everyone get their papers in order.  Next stop: the bus station.  This was right before access was cut off to McAllen.  Team Brownsville is still managing to get supplies to the thousands camped in Metamores across from Brownsville, TX.  To learn more or to help with desperately needed supplies visit www.teambrownsville.org.
