Steve Skaar

As both an artist and an IT professional, Steve Skaar has lived and worked in Emeryville for much of the last 40 years. Several of his paintings are currently on display around town as part of the city’s “Flora and Fauna” themed Bus Shelter artist program, portraying some whimsical encounters with animal life in the urban environment. “My paintings are expressionistic, “you see an animal, you can be pretty sure it’s a symbol.” The photo selected for this year’s ECA depicts just a small portion of the artist’s allegorical “Glass Path,” a dozen-year accumulation of glass shards (over a quarter million individual pieces) retrieved from the Berkeley Bayshore and laid out in a nearly 300-foot path nearby.
